A San Francisco native who writes and performs her own original music as well as fiercing audiences with her drag and performance art in and out of the Bay Area, trixxie carr is on the bridge of the future setting up bungee cords!
A fearless musician, playwright and singer by nature, trixxie writes and plays all the instruments on her own songs and performs them as theatrical pieces, mixing her talent for acting and directing together with her original music and experimentalist philosophies regarding current events, religion, politics and the meaning of life. As a faux queen*, miss trixxie carr performs solo or with dancers either lip-syncing or singing live in a mix of comedy-burlesque-performance art. Obsessed with existentialist despair yet a hopeless optimist, trixxie is never afraid to look at the subtext of our words and actions on an intimate and global level, and she attacks with wit and satire the phallacies of blind belief, while still embracing emotion and romanticism, using imagery and metaphor to connect her ideas and reach out to her audiences.
Beginning on the infamous 'Trannyshack' stage and making a name for herself lip-syncing as a faux queen, trixxie quickly became known for her voice as a cabaret chanteuse with the talented cast of The Crimson Club, who performed full musical comedy theatre pieces written, performed and composed by their own mad desire to entertain and make a political statement. From 2006-2010 she was a lead singer and co-mash-up-creator for the cover band Smash-Up Derby, who won Best of the Bay twice and travelled all over the US as well as to China serving up fierce hybrids of pop and rock songs before moving on to honor her own musical creations. In Oct. 2009 she debuted her first play, "Hold Me Closer, Tiny Dionysus" and has continued to be an outspoken voice for free speech, avant-art, drag theatre and human rights. Currently playing shows at events such as Folsom St. Fair with her true fetish, original music, she has also toured with 'All About Evil' in its stunning pre-show spooktacular as Deborah Tennis, the lead role in this debut horror film directed by Joshua Grannell and starring her dear friend Peaches Christ, and starred as The Lilac (a role written by the playwright for her specifically), and Diana in the world-premiere of Taylor Mac's Obie Award winning play, "The Lily's Revenge". Recently collaborating with Mica Sigourney, aka Vivvyanne Forevermore, trixxie performed in 'MASTERWORK' this Spring at CounterPULSE, and hopes to be touring soon as part of the 'WORK MORE' collective of drag performers. In August 2012 she was invited to create the closing night performance spectacular for the Abandon Normal Devices Festival in Manchester, UK as part of the British Cultural Olympiad , which featured collaborations with Mancurian artists and drag queens, as well as international artists, and a unicorn!
trixxie loves high heels, latex, corsetry, wigs, puppies, false eyelashes, laughing until she cries, The Cure, her guitars, and most of all, microphones and good music running through massive sound systems...
ALSO...See trixxie and the Bay Area's fiercest jazz musicians put together a one of a kind musical experience incorporating theatre, dance, hilarity and aural bliss! Members of the Jazz Mafia (jazzmafia.com) love to join in creating unique journeys through the "New Standards" as well as some songs that have never been heard before...all uniquely tailored to your event!
